The first page gives an index of all the topics covered - this is the
table of contents. Clicking on a
hypertext link will display an overview of the particular topic. If this
does not contain enough information then the Detailed Notes can be viewed by
clicking on the further information button,
, at the bottom of the page. The notes page has a
corresponding button to effect return to the correwsponding overview
page. Occasionally
a document will have a footnote denoted by the
button, (this is supposed to be a foot). In order
to return from the footnote, it is necessary to use the Back
button of the browser.
The
,
and
buttons will move you around in a particular
document, for example, if you are viewing the Topic Overviews then
clicking on the
button will take you to the next Overview Topic;
if you are reading the Notes then clicking on the
button will take you to the next set of Detailed Notes. The same ideas apply to
the Practical Exercises.
To move back to the index of Overview Topics, click on the
button.
Occasionally, when enough information has been presented, an exercise is
set. This make take the form of a Java applet or, a hyperlink to a
questions page (represented by a
, at the
bottom of the page).
The Java applets define simple mutiple choice questions. Simply select the checkbox next to the answers which you think are correct and press return or click on the button marked Submit.
The hyperlinked exercises may have a program ``template'' to help you on your way. You will need to open a ``teminal'' window to a system which supports the relevant compiler so that programs that will answer the question can be developed. Contact your systems administrator for details of how to access the compiler and on your particular system. There is a button on each Questions page to move back to the corresponding Notes page.
